Chaat Masala: For Any Occasion
Chaat Masala is a pillar of Indian flavor. It’s known for being zingy, tangy, sweet and hot, all at the same time. The spice blend takes its name from the savory Indian snack “chaat” which many eat for breakfast, an afternoon snack, and even lunch and dinner.
Spice company La Boite partnered with recipe developer and chef Samah Dada to create the Chaat Masala Spice Blend. It combines red chili, cumin, coriander, among other spices, for a mix that boosts flavor in a variety of dishes. Most often sprinkled as a garnish on salads, chaats, drinks like Indian-style lemonade, and meals like curry and dal.
Samah is the featured chef of our June/July CrateChef box and we’re thrilled that she decided to share her Chat Masala Spice Blend with all of you. Try it sprinkled in Hummucado Toast (pg. 40), Sweet Potato Aloo Tikki (pg. 44), Chilled Chaat Masala Chickpea Salad (pg. 98), or the Coconut Yogurt Raita which pairs well with the Brown Rice Biryani (pg. 176-7). All of these delicious dishes come from her cookbook Dada Eats Love To Cook It which is also included in this month’s box.
Ready, set, chaat. And let us know the creative ways you plan to use this spice blend.
