Small But Mighty!

One of the featured products chosen by author, recipe developer, and blogger Jessica Merchant for her CrateChef box is small, but mighty. Introducing Navitas Organics Chia Seeds! If you’re not on the chia seed band wagon yet, it’s time.

Chia Seeds are full of important nutrients. Not only are they an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, they are also rich in antioxidants and provide fiber, iron, and calcium. Omega-3 fatty acids help raise HDL cholesterol, the "good" cholesterol that protects against heart attack and stroke. Mixed with water, they can replace eggs in vegan cooking and provide an amazing source of protein.

Navitas Organics Chia Seeds are virtually tasteless, making them incredibly versatile. Use as a thickening agent in soups or smoothies, add to baked goods for a poppy seed-like crunch or sprinkle a spoonful into oatmeal, granola, cereal or yogurt for a natural, healthy boost.

INGREDIENTS
For the acai chia bowl:
1 cup of milk (we prefer almond milk)
1 unsweetened packet of acai
½ frozen banana
½ avocado
1 scoop/serving your favorite vanilla or unflavored protein powder
⅓ cup frozen blueberries
2 Tbsp Navitas Organics Chia Seeds
1 tsp beet powder (for color, optional)
Toppings
Chopped figs
Sliced banana
Chopped walnuts
Shredded coconut
Chia seeds
Drizzle of sunflower seed butter or agave nectar…or both!

DIRECTIONS
  1. Combine all ingredients for the bowl in a blender, adding more milk as needed to thin out.
  2. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow the chia to set.
  3. Freeze for a few minutes while you’re getting your toppings ready.
  4. Choose your favorite topping combination!
  5. Sprinkle Navitas Organics Chia Seeds over the top for an added crunch and protein boost.
  6. Enjoy!
