Cynthia Chen McTernan

We are excited to share our newest collaboration featuring LA based food blog star, author and lawyer Cynthia Chen McTernan. Cynthia is the creator and photographer behind Two Red Bowls , the winner of the 2015 Saveur Blog Award for Most Delicious Food. In her debut cookbook, A Common Table - 80 Recipes and Stories from My Shared Cultures, McTernan showcases her unique brand through a collection of modern, Asian- inspired plates that celebrate the diversity in families and the power of food to unite us all around the table. Cynthia has been featured in Food & Wine, Saveur, Better Homes & Gardens, Good Housekeeping and Huffington Post and has collaborated with West Elm, Crate & Barrel, King Arthur Flour, Food 52, Urban Outfitters and more.

McTernan grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, eating dishes reflecting her Chinese heritage alongside Southern staples like cornbread and sweet tea. After attending college in North Carolina, McTernan headed north to snowy Cambridge, Massachusetts, for law school and where she met her future husband who she describes as a "Korean-Irish boy who grew up in Hawaii". Eventually settling in southern California to be close to family and raise their son, McTernan's dishes are comforting and reflective of the melting pot of cultures that makes her family unique. Diverse, yet distinctly American.

McTernan understands that food is the common denominator that can bridge the differences between us. Her blog and cookbook tell lovely personal stories, provide mouth-watering recipes and visually stunning photography. Her food is comforting and accessible with influences from her Chinese background, her husband's Korean Mother and her Southern roots. Her philosophy is simple.... if she can make it, you definitely can. That's always music to our ears.
